East Austin is Makin' News & We Love Talkin' About it!
Just as people started gearing up for times reminiscent of a pre-pandemic world folks were stunned by the economic swing that has some holding on for dear life, literally, while others are watching for the uptick to take a leap into opportunities and increase their fortunes. We at Beck-Reit thought it would be helpful to compile some noteworthy East Austin news for our community of small businesses, owners, and investors. So, here’s what’s been happening in our neck of the woods!
StoryBuilt: Receivership & Abandoned Projects
Beck-Reit aims to delve into the unraveling saga of StoryBuilt, exploring the company's rise, fall, legal battles, and the implications for the communities it has under construction. With over 14 of the projects underway we can expect the impact to be felt and there will be many that benefit from the opportunity. But not thier customers they made promises to in an Austin Business Journal Article in 2022 “We then saw the opportunities to expand beyond just acquisition and development and homebuilding and make sure we were managing our customers and properties for life.”

1031 EXCHANGE DONE : 2 Acres in Central Texas - #TexasTriangle
Beck-Reit is no stranger to 1031 exchanges. In fact, you may call us the 1031 experts. In 2022 we closed two 1031 exchanges, and have never failed. The rigorous timeline to identify a property to purchase before Uncle Sam tries to swoop in and grab his “share” can be intimidating for most, but our meticulous process makes every one of those 45 days of the identification period count.

Congratulations to Dick Clark & Associates - 2120 E 7th St Wins Austin Business Journal 2021 CRE Award for BEST OFFICE REHAB!
It started when DeLea and Mark met for the 1st time for breakfast at Chumikals in 2017 (a favorite East Austin Joint for both) and the breakfast stretched into lunch. A couple of days later the property was toured and under contract - the rest is Award-Winning History!
The inspiring architects at Dick Clark & Associates have been rightfully recognized for their incredible office design at 2120 E 7th St - winning the Austin Business Journal’s 2021 CRE award for Best Office Rehab.
Originally an 80s pawnshop, 2120 E 7th was built like a concrete bunker with just one window and no insulation or even air conditioning for most of the space. DCA’s ground up design and construction has transformed the site into an eye-catching functional space perfect for creative office and retail needs.

The finished project was managed by Beck-Reit Asset Management and leased by Beck-Reit Commercial Real Estate until 2020, when the developers came knocking with an offer we couldn’t refuse.
